GOALS
How you know the new school year is upon us?
Parents showcasing their children entering the new grade on social media.
New school year brings.
new expectations
new experiences
new perspectives
The “new thing” we overlook?
Goals.
Research shows you're 42% more likely to achieve a goal if you write it down.
Every year, for the past 2 years
A whiteboard with a list of reachable goals has inhabited our living room.
Clearly visible to us
We decided to use the same goal-setting formula for our son this school year.
Here are 3 reasons why goal setting helped us with our son (and could help you with your child too):
#1. Goals produce clarity.
Without clarity we tend to lose our focus, forgetting the goal in mind, and slowly drift away from achieving it.
As a family, we get excited when we understand the end goal for our son.
We make sure to keep it simple but make it clear.
#2. Goals foster a process.
We are the strongest support system our children have.
Reaching goals will only happen with our full support on their set goals. While this may look different for everyone, it’s still grounded in the common goal.
We let our son know we’re there to help in reaching his goal. This encourages him to stay committed to his process.
#3. Goals produce reward.
Motivation, ambition, and drive go hand in hand when rewards are attached to goals.
Small rewards along the journey of goal setting help engage our kids to stay focused and fight to the finish line.
