Handle your business
Every Morning before going to school we have a conversation with our son.
Usually, it sounds something like this “Josiah” Yes Daddy.
Today we are going to have a great day. Yes, Dad.
Then we ask the question he dislikes or is tired of hearing.
“What are we going to do today? “I know Dad, Handle our business.
What exactly is “Handle our Business “it's the power of a daily assurance.
It became vital in our son's growth at school when he began to struggle at the start of the last school year.
He often had issues with paying attention to the teacher, keeping focus, and finishing assignments on time.
Instead of complaining, we adjusted our game plan as parents.
Every Morning we stayed the course, repeating the same thing “Handle your business.”
Here are 3 ways you can build accountability in your child to help them start the day, excited, motivated, and focused:
#1. “Stay the course.”
Children need assurance - especially from us, their parents.
We are only as strong as our consistent desire to see a change in our kids. This takes time and a little effort from us. Be patient.
With my son, it took us almost 30 days to begin to experience small changes. We committed to the work.
Commit to the work. It’s not as hard as you think.
#2. “Clarity is key.”
Being specific is important.
What does accountability look like for your child?
For example, we wanted to make sure our son understood he was accountable for 3 things:
1. staying on task
2. finishing his assignments
3. handling his responsibilities before helping others
We gave him clear responsibilities for his accountability.
#3. “Encouragement - the secret confidence builder”
Empowering our children with a daily dose of encouragement can quietly grow confidence in our kids.
Confidence is like a muscle: the more weight you apply (encouragement), the bigger and stronger it gets.
Encouraging your child slowly molds and grows their self-esteem and their worldview. The best part, encouragement can be applied to many parts of our kids’ lives.
